Minutes later, Jensen Huang took the stage to declare the Alpamayo family of open-source models, datasets, and simulation tools “the Linux moment for autonomy.” For an industry scarred by closed ecosystems and billion-dollar failures, the promise is simple: share the smarts, share the liability, speed the road to Level 4.
From Black Box to Glass House
Until today, automakers who wanted production-grade AI either licensed opaque super-models from Waymo or Mobileye, or mortgaged their R&D budgets to build in-house. Alpamayo changes the math. Released under the permissive Apache 2.0 license, the suite includes:
